Lip Blush Training Online or In Person: How to Choose the Right One

Want to train in lip blush and can't decide between an online lip blush course and in-person training? Here's what a good course should teach you (light lips, ombré lips, dark lips and neutralization), the real pros and cons of each format, the criteria for choosing well and how long it takes to get to your first clients.

Key takeaways

  • Light lips: you add color, with two techniques, full lip color and ombré lips, the super trendy effect.
  • Dark lips: the technique barely changes; what changes is color theory, the choice of pigments.
  • With a complete course, you can welcome every client to your studio.
  • Criterion #1: a trainer who's really available after the course.

Why take a lip blush course today

Lip blush, full lip color, ombré lips: demand is high. And dark lip neutralization is more and more in demand, including from men, especially in countries with very mixed populations. A course that teaches you to work on all lips, light and dark, is a course that lets you turn no one away.

It's a service that's a real hit: clients love the result, they come back, and they tell everyone around them. With a single course, you learn the three main lip services:

Lip tattoo

Full lip color

Adding color to the whole lip, from natural to a lipstick effect.

Ombré lips

A more defined outline that gets lighter toward the center: the trendy 3D effect.

Dark lips

Neutralizing and lightening dark lips, thanks to color theory.

Light lips: adding color, and ombré lips

On light lips, you add color. You learn two techniques: full lip color, from the natural “my lips, but better” effect all the way to a lipstick effect, and ombré lips (3D effect), the super trendy effect everyone wants.

Dark lips: neutralization is a matter of science

Next, dark lips. Here, not much changes in the technique. What changes is the choice of pigments: that's color theory. Here, you don't add color, you take it away. You need to understand which color is hiding in the lips, and which pigment will neutralize it.

In this course, we talk science: you learn to read dark, two-toned or uneven lips, and to choose the right pigments to lighten and even them out, on women and men alike (see lip neutralization for dark lips).

Neutralized dark lips: the technique stays the same, it's the choice of pigments that makes the result.

The message of this course

Light lips, dark lips, women, men: thanks to this course, you'll be able to work on everyone, and welcome everyone to your studio.

The online course: pros and cons

The Lip Blush online course on a computer
The Lip Blush online course, to follow at your own pace.
  • The price: an online course costs less than in-person training.
  • Quality content: well-filmed, high-quality, structured videos.
  • Unlimited replays: in a hands-on job, rewatching the movements and the sessions trains your eye and lets you start practicing very quickly.
  • It's reassuring: anytime, you can go back for a refresher, for example on choosing a pigment for dark lips.
  • Updates: techniques, products and methods evolve. A regularly updated course keeps you up to date, without paying again.
  • Follow-up: in a good online course, the trainer stays reachable.

The limit: there's no trainer next to you while you practice. That's why it's important to check that she's really available after you buy.

In-person training: pros and cons

The pros: live interaction with the trainer, and immediate answers to your questions.

In-person training: Habiba at work on lips, guiding the student live.
  • When you're starting out, you don't know which questions to ask yet. The real questions come weeks later, with practice, often in front of dark or unusual lips.
  • During training, you're focused on what you see. If you film, it's on your phone, in average quality.
  • You can't rewatch the sessions.
  • If the technique evolves, you have to take and pay for another course.
  • The price is higher, not counting travel.

3 students max

In person, no more than 3 students per course: beyond that, the work is bound to be rushed. Big groups can work for masterclasses for experts, not for beginners.

“Better an online course with a trainer who's always available than in-person training where she stops answering after a month.”

The criteria for choosing your lip blush course

  • The curriculum covers light lips (full lip color and ombré lips) and dark lips (neutralization, color theory).
  • The trainer's healed results, not just same-day photos.
  • Healed results from her former students.
  • How long you can access the content, ideally for life, and the updates.
  • How available the trainer really is after the course, and through which channel.

Red flags

  • A course that doesn't cover dark lips
  • No healed results shown
  • Vague or time-limited follow-up
  • Groups of 10 or more students for beginners

Prerequisites

  • The course is suitable for all levels: beginners and established PMU artists alike.
  • No need to know how to draw: you work on the lip shape with a simple method.

From practice to your first clients

  1. Practice on latex (synthetic skin) first.
  2. Move on to your first models, starting with light lips.
  3. Build a portfolio of healed results, then expand to dark lips.

With serious practice and training, you can get started in about 2 months. As with any new job, there's an adjustment phase at the beginning: that's normal.

What's next: brows and freckles

Once you've mastered lip blush, you can expand your services: brows with powder brows training, and freckles with freckle tattoo training.
